Poor proofing or blogging blotto?

We've all done it - written something quickly and published it without thought, only to realise the following morning that our brain wasn't completely engaged.

But the we're not Tory candidates calling our rivals naughty words. Not sure how this could've happened. A private joke that missed the final proofread? An out-of-control autocorrect function?

(If you read the whole article you'll see he meant to write 'councillor'.)

A Tory candidate has apologised for a using the word "c***" while writing about his Labour rival.

Richard Graham row

Richard Graham, a Conservative hopeful for Gloucester, blamed lack of proofreading for using the swear word in connection with Parmjit Dhanda, the city's Labour MP.

The hastily-removed online opinion piece about expenses - picked up by the Gloucester Citizen newspaper - said constituents wished to see "some honesty and hard work from their c***".

Writing on his web page, Mr Graham said: "To any reader who read this website early Monday morning, when there were some typos - including a word I never use verbally or in writing - a big apology.

Another social media backlash

One of the worst things you can in the blogosphere is be sexist. Just look at what happened when Motrin suggested that baby slings give Moms backache.

This time it's Dell - currently riding high on its Twitter successes, it goes and shoots itself in the foot by launching a site with tips on how women PC users can find recipes and count calories. Whoops.

What Do Women Want in a Laptop?

The computer maker recently took the wraps off a new Web site geared toward women called Della, which advertises Dell’s line of Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks.

The site originally featured tech “tips” that recommended calorie counting, finding recipes and watching cooking videos as ways for women to get the most from a laptop.

But the approach may have done more harm than good: A backlash erupted online, as both women and men described the Web site as “ridiculous,” “gimmicky” and, as one disgruntled Facebook member wrote on Dell’s Facebook page, “Lamest move ever!”

Facebook out-Twitters Twitter

One morning, Twitter is going to wake up and find Facebook sitting on the end of the bed, staring at it.

Facebook's slightly scary, Single White Female-esque metamorphosis into a Twitter clone has taken a turn for the serious. Facebook is now trying to out-Twitter Twitter by highlighting SMS for status updates for users in the UK in a big spash box after the login screen.

Back in the old days of Twitter - you know, a year ago or so – SMS was the whole point of Twitter. Then, as its popularity grew along with the number of desktop and phone clients, it took the deeply unpleasant (for them and us) decision to stop SMS updates in the UK.

Since then, SMS has returned on Twitter, but only for Vodafone users. How strange that Facebook is currently signed with all networks except Vodafone.

"You're being paid a lot more for doing a lot less."

Not sure if BBC journalist Carrie Gracie thought she was wrong-footing Lord Foulkes by answering his direct question with a direct answer, but I'm going to have to review some of my media training tips. I often throw that question at my interviewees to see how they handle it.

She definitely thinks about it before admitting to earning £92,000, then goes ahead anyway. Watching the footage again, I think the decision backfires and the interview ends at 1-0 to Lord Foulkes...

College Humor does Real-Life Twitter

This is an old Twitter joke. Making the point that Twitter is just a load of people shouting into a crowd isn't new. But this one is funny because he acts it so well...
